George’s Corner Tavern – 2023 Update
George’s Corner Tavern is another long-lived dive along Interstate Avenue. In business since 1934, the neighborhood is a touch gritty as evidenced by the multitude of security cameras and combination lock on the bathroom door.
But the large dedicated parking lot is a welcome amenity and seems safe-ish. We originally visited in 2021 (see our initial review here – https://www.portlanddivebars.com/georges-corner-tavern/ ) and the intervening two years have done wonders for George’s – the newness of the remodel has worn off and the chicken fryer is back in action!
Greeted by that heady perfume of a fully functional fryer, we bellied up to the modest sized bar where Erin took great care of us. They have some taps, I failed to count. The menu runs toward predictable bar favorites, but the fried chicken rocks.
Not usually one for dessert, the vanilla pudding shot was surprisingly delicious and plenty boozy. The video poker slum has its own mezzanine, flanked by some old school pinball machines. The outside area is solid and they reportedly have patio parties out there (whatever that entails, but sounds good).
