Holman’s Bar & Grill
The question was hanging over us and we needed to settle it – is Holman’s Bar & Grill (AKA “Holman’s Restaurant”) a dive or just a divey restaurant? Well… let’s just say it swings both ways. Two thirds of it is a regular diner-y restaurant and the other 3rd is a somewhat divey bar. But a not very challenging dive bar where you would feel comfortable bringing your mother. It is bordering on too clean for the category, but we include it here because sometimes you gotta eat even when you are dive bar-ing.
Holman’s Bar & Grill has a full menu with emphasis on basic diner type fare such as sandwiches, burgers, breakfast in some form all day long and plenty of fried stuff. They have some good specials (2 full sized corndogs for $3.75), cute little sliders that reminded us of White Castle (but more substantial), and the order of jalapeno poppers was large and fried to perfection.
There’s a room with a pool table, old skool video games and tvs. Nice large patio out back that is roofed and walled from the elements and is dog friendly. Supposedly you can spin a mini wheel o’ fortune to see if your meals is free but we did not see it put to use during our visit.
The whiskey club seems weirdly out of place, but just know that if you drink all 26 whiskeys you too can have your name on a plaque on their wall.
