Nite Hawk Cafe and Lounge
Established in 1931, the Nite Hawk Café and Lounge is a jovial stop along Interstate Avenue.
Filled with regulars, happy chatter and smiling faces on our visit, we felt welcome instead of suspect (like at some other establishments; not necessarily a bad thing). It’s a big space, even with the café up front closed off (another covid casualty).
The Nite Hawk’s lounge boasts a huge bar as well as a smattering of tables and booths. Teeny but cute outside area off the parking lot and some picnic tables along the front for the smokers/dog people.
3 pool tables, video poker (of course) and some big TVs scattered about. 6 taps, 2 crap.
But the menu – sweet Jesus! An eclectic mishmash of down-home favorites and not-so-favorites (I’m looking at you liver ‘n onions!).
You can get everything here – from a chili dog to a burger to prime rib, even a full turkey dinner. The onion rings were especially divine.
AND they serve breakfast all day! Big thanks to Dana for cheerfully staying late on her shift – we enjoyed her special brand of kind service.
