The Korner Pocket Bar
What a comfortable, friendly and thoughtful place! Not words I commonly use to describe a dive, but Korner Pocket is Rachel’s bar and that’s how she does it. How considerate of them to open at 7am! Too bad there is no breakfast on offer, but there is a menu full of tasty treats including “the best” hot dog, served with the onions placed thoughtfully on the bottom “so they don’t fall out”. I guess technically hot dogs could be breakfast? Ugh, I’d have to be pretty hung over to even consider that.
We came in on a late Wednesday morning to grab a drink and some fried delights. Cozy, with just the right balance of cleanish dirty that avoids that lingering industrial strength cleaner smell. The juke box plays classic rock, they have 4 craft beers, 1 cider plus 5 crap beers on tap and a nice selection of nostalgic PBR memorabilia graces the walls. Korner Pocket is also kinda sportsy, but not over the top.
On a midweek morning there was a constellation of regulars and us, but may be a different story on game days. Plenty of video poker machines and two pool tables. Wednesday is well drink special day, so hefty greyhounds were on order during our visit, but they have other fun specials seven days a week too. Bathroom is tiny but tidy. They pay attention to the details here and Korner Pocket feels like a well-cared for and well-loved place. Nice.
