The Slammer Tavern
It’s impossible to be unhappy at The Slammer Tavern because everyday is Christmas!!
No joke – Christmas décor, tchotchkes and extensive lights adorn every surface (somewhat concerning from a fire safety standpoint, but danger is part of the charm of dive bars, IMHO). I get a little bit of a similar vibe to the It’s a Small World ride at Disneyland.
However, rest assured, beneath all of the year round holiday cheer lurks a real, live dive bar. It’s a u-shaped, well-worn wooden bar. 4 taps, 3 crap.
They have monthly drink specials made from a somewhat shallow selection of booze. Great music, super kind bartendress named Laura and very limited food menu, but enough to soak up excess booze if you overdo it on Christmas spirit.
Lots of tvs. NO VIDEO POKER (hooray)! But fun old skool video games like a full-size table top version of Pac Man, a pinball machine, skee ball. Definitely a place to get your drink on and comfortably hang out for several hours.
