Your Inn Tavern
Look beyond the unfortunate name of the Your Inn Tavern (say the first two words fast and think of waterfalls) and what you will find is an historic Portland dive bar. Open since 1923, this is a charming little spot on a sleepy street in the St John’s neighborhood.
The space is dominated by a circular bar at the front custom made for extroverts. You can see and talk to everyone in the place, like it or not! Up a few steps in the back is an addition with a few tables and chairs and access to a pretty little covered patio. But back to the bar – manned by the lovely Bridgette on our day drinking extravaganza visit, there were 7 taps, mostly craft with a couple of crap. Or get yourself a PBR tall boy for the bargain price of $3.00.
The menu at Your Inn Tavern is borderline too schmancy for a dive, but this is Portland so we will overlook it. We sampled a delicious giant Hawaiian burger and some fantastic homemade chili but were denied a taste of any of the many fried delights on offer since the fryer was sadly out of service. Facing a grease-deficit situation, we resolved to come back and try the 4-piece fried chicken dinner on our next pass through the neighborhood.
